Le Terroir

THE RICHNESS OF A UNIQUE TERROIR

IN THE HEART OF HILLY GASCONY AND ITS LAKES, AT THE CROSSROADS OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN, THE PYRENEES, THE LANDES FOREST, THE PIEDMONT OF THE MASSIF CENTRAL AND THE GARONNE

AN ABSOLUTE SYMBIOSIS

In the heart of Bas-Armagnac, the Rubens Spengler estate enjoys a set of circumstances that are particularly favorable to the production of fruity, tender and aromatic white wines. This is why the place remains to this day and for centuries one of the strongholds of the distillation of these wines internationally and it is not by chance, so much the elements are concentrated here in a rare alchemy.

It is the very nature of the hilly landscapes which allows this alternation of vineyard/forest so characteristic and favourable.
Finally, we must pay tribute to the age-old know-how and therefore to the people, the Gascons, without whom nothing would be possible. They are the ones who have selected over time the best adapted grape varieties, until the perfect osmosis with their terroir that we know today

THE INFLUENCE OF THE ELEMENTS

On the one hand, the ocean plays a major role by depositing, through the movement of the tides, the marine sands called “tawny sands”, which are very rich in iron oxide and which are superimposed on a sub-layer made up of boulbènes where clay, sand and other silts merrily mix, thus guaranteeing a comfortable water reserve for the vines.

In addition, the majestic and very close Landes forest provides a formidable natural barrier regulating temperatures and rainfall. This explains at least in part the mild and sunny autumns which the region enjoys and which are perfect for bringing the grapes to good maturity.

The sacred union of a terroir and its white grape varieties

Our grape varieties composed of petit and gros manseng, sauvignon gris and sauvignon blanc, merlot and colombard blossom marvelously on these soils where sand, clay and limestone are subtly mixed to give our wines all their typicity. Their freshness and fruitiness awaken the taste buds in a harmonious balance between roundness and acidity. Their pale yellow color with discreet golden (or green) reflections calls for the tasting of these wines full of vivacity and delicacy that will delight you on all occasions.
